When to go to Tunisia: a month-by-month guide

Beach, culture or desert: the best time for each region of Tunisia, from Tabarka to Tozeur, with temperatures and our booking tips.

When to go to Tunisia: a month-by-month guide

Tunisia can be visited all year round, but not everywhere in the same way. Here is how to choose according to what you are looking for.

For the beach: June to October

From June to September the sea is above 24 °C along the whole coast and it hardly rains. July and August are the hottest and busiest months: book your hotel early. September and early October are often the best compromise: warm sea, fewer people, gentler prices.

For Djerba: almost all year

In the south, Djerba is pleasant from April to November and mild in winter (16–18 °C by day). It is the destination for off-season stays.

For the desert: October to April

Tozeur, Douz and Ksar Ghilane are best avoided in high summer (over 40 °C). Go from late October to April: mild days, cool nights, clear skies.

For culture: spring and autumn

The medinas of Tunis, Sousse and Kairouan, Carthage, El Jem: March–May and October–November bring ideal walking temperatures.

The green north

Tabarka and Ain Draham are cool in summer and green in spring; winter there is rainy.

In short

  • Hammamet, Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia — June to October
  • Djerba — April to November
  • Tunis and Carthage — March to June, September to November
  • Tozeur and the desert — October to April
  • Tabarka — May to September
